Kyburz sits in the South Fork American River canyon at 4,074 feet, and its parcels climb the canyon wall from there. Two houses in view of one another can sit in completely different design regimes.

What that means in practice. Any community-wide snow-load figure for Kyburz would be wrong for most addresses in it — too high for the valley-floor homes and far too low for the up-canyon ones. CAL FIRE classifies Kyburz as a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone within the State Responsibility Area. For an interior bathroom the classification usually has a limited reach, because the requirements with the most force concern exterior assemblies rather than wet rooms.
