The Challenge

A hall bathroom that needed to keep its tub for a family but shed every dated finish in the room: the surround, the vanity, the light, the floor and the toilet.

Our Solution

We installed a new white alcove tub with wood-look porcelain on the surround walls, a vertical chevron mosaic accent column with a recessed niche, and a matte black rain head, handheld and trim. A matte black frameless sliding door runs on a top-mounted bar. The room got a floating walnut vanity with a white top and black faucet, a round black mirror with a three-globe fixture, a new skirted toilet and wood-look plank flooring.

Why keep a bathtub instead of converting to a shower?

A family bathroom usually needs a tub for bathing children, and a home with only showers can be harder to sell. This remodel kept the tub and updated everything around it instead.

Does a matte black finish hold up in a shower?

Yes, with normal care. Matte black fixtures are powder-coated or PVD-finished and resist water spotting well; abrasive cleaners should be avoided so the finish is not scratched.
