Newcastle is an unincorporated Placer County community at roughly 797 feet, between Rocklin and Auburn along Interstate 80. Its history is still on the state register: the California Office of Historic Preservation lists the Newcastle Fruit Sheds as California Point of Historical Interest P836 and the Newcastle Portuguese Hall as P578.

The housing is overwhelmingly owner-occupied — about nine in ten occupied homes — and was built mainly across four decades. The Census Bureau's estimates for a place this size carry wide margins, so we publish only the figures that hold up: a median year built of 1978 (± 4), roughly 81% of homes from 1960 to 1999, and about half from 1970 to 1989. Finer splits — how many homes predate 1960, how many are newer than 2000, or the median home value — are too uncertain at Newcastle's size to state as fact.

Two PCWA systems reach Newcastle. Auburn/Bowman (state system CA3110005) covers most of the census area and Foothill (CA3110025) covers the rest; PCWA's water-quality FAQ classifies its water as soft, and the Foothill system reported hardness of about 10 mg/L in its 2019 Consumer Confidence Report, the most recent held in the state's archive. On water that soft, the residue on glass and fixtures is soap rather than scale, and there is no water-quality case for a softener.

The caveat is the countryside around the town. Larger parcels beyond the census area are more likely to be on a private well, and well water does not follow either system's numbers. On a well, iron is typically the bigger issue for a bathroom than hardness, because it stains light grout permanently. If your property is on a well, a simple water test before grout and tile are selected settles it.

Denis, Alex, and his team did a fantastic job on my project! It was a full gut, bathroom, laundry, and kitchen remodel. I even added a siding replacement on part of the house, along with some wood rot repairs. There were a ton of details throughout the various projects that they helped with or had suggestions on how to complete them, if there was a delay, they were on it, trying to find alternative vendors. I spent 35 years in the commercial construction industry as a carpenter, superintendent, then president of my own company and later as a senior project and construction manager building mostly offices, hospitals and schools.
