The Challenge

This compact Citrus Heights bathroom had a tub with a shower curtain, beige floor tile, a laminate vanity and a dated light fixture. Cleaning grout and stepping over the tub had become a chore, and the homeowners wanted a brighter room with less maintenance.

Our Solution

We removed the tub and installed a low-threshold shower base with marble-look acrylic wall panels, which give the look of stone with no grout lines to scrub. A handheld on a matte black slide bar, a black-framed glass panel and a new exhaust fan complete the shower. The floor was tiled in a marble herringbone, and a black shaker vanity with a white top, a round black mirror and a three-light black fixture replaced the old vanity and light.

Questions About This Citrus Heights Project

What are acrylic shower walls and why choose them over tile?

Large solid panels with a marble pattern that cover each wall in one piece. There are no grout lines to scrub or reseal, installation is faster than tile, and the panels are a good fit for a compact bathroom where low maintenance matters more than a custom tile pattern.

Is the shower floor tile or a pan?

A low-threshold shower base. The marble herringbone tile is on the bathroom floor outside the shower; inside, the base is a single piece with a built-in slope to the drain.

Did the bathroom keep its original footprint?

Yes. The shower occupies exactly the space the tub did, and the toilet and vanity stayed in their original locations, which kept plumbing changes to a minimum.
