The Challenge

The existing Loomis shower was closed in by a frosted glass door and a tiled half wall, with small beige wall tile, a diamond-set tile floor and chrome fixtures that had seen decades of use. The homeowners liked the pony wall layout but wanted the shower to feel open and current.

Our Solution

We removed the old tile, door and half wall down to the framing and rebuilt the pony wall to carry a custom frameless glass panel. The walls are large-format grey porcelain, with a recessed niche lined in mosaic tile, a rain head and a handheld on a slide bar, all in matte black. The shower floor was retiled, and the bathroom floor received a marble-look porcelain to tie the room together.

Questions About This Loomis Project

What is a pony wall in a shower?

A short wall, usually about 36 to 42 inches high, that separates the shower from the rest of the bathroom. Here it was rebuilt, waterproofed and tiled, and a custom frameless glass panel sits on top of it so the shower stays open above the wall.

Why was the old frosted door removed?

The frosted door closed the shower in and showed water spots. With a glass panel on the pony wall and an open entry there is no door track to clean and the shower reads as part of the room.
