The walk-in shower with a tiled window return.

The Challenge

A tub with a beige tile surround and gold-framed sliders, in a bathroom that also had a window inside the wet area. The homeowners wanted a shower instead of the tub and a cleaner look at the window.

Our Solution

We removed the tub and sliders and built a walk-in shower with a tiled pan. The walls are marble-look porcelain, with a corner shelf and the window trimmed in matching tile so it can get wet. The floor is a pebble mosaic, and a frameless sliding glass door on a brushed nickel top track replaced the gold frame.

Scope of Work

  1. 1Remove tub, tile surround and gold-framed sliding doors
  2. 2Build walk-in shower with tiled pan
  3. 3Tile walls in marble-look porcelain and trim the window in tile
  4. 4Install corner shelf
  5. 5Install pebble mosaic shower floor
  6. 6Install frameless sliding glass door

Questions About This Auburn Project

Can a window stay inside a shower?

Yes, if it is detailed for water. Here the window opening was wrapped in the same porcelain tile, sloped to shed water, and the joints sealed so the window can get wet without damage.

What replaced the gold-framed sliding doors?

A frameless sliding glass door on a brushed nickel top track. It has no bottom track to collect water and the clear glass shows the tile instead of hiding it.

Who issues bathroom permits in Auburn?

The City of Auburn Building Division for addresses inside city limits. Surrounding unincorporated areas are permitted by Placer County.
